FlexFTP and Multifactor Authentication (MFA)

After enabling Multifactor Authentication (MFA) on our mainframe host, when transferring multiple files using the FlexFTP client, the user is prompted for a One Time Password (OTP) for each and every file. How can the FlexFTP client be configured to prevent this behavior?

By default, the FlexFTP client application uses five concurrent connections to the FTP host. This provides performance advantages when transferring multiple files. However, when Multifactor Authentication is enabled on the host, each of these connections must be authenticated by the user. To prevent this behavior and only be prompted once for a One Time Password, you must reconfigure the FlexFTP Workspace.

Configure the FlexFTP Workspace to use a single connection:

  1. Open the FlexFTP Workspace to reconfigure.
  2. Click File>Workspace Settings.
  3. Change the option Maximum concurrent transfers from the default of 5 to 1.
  4. Click the OK button to save.
  5. Disconnect and reconnect the FTP session.
  6. Test transferring multiple files and make sure the user is prompted for a single OTP.
